Leevey Outlasts Wee In Ottawa

In an opening day littered with upsets, New Zealand qualifier Tamsyn Leevey caused the biggest shock when she twice came from behind to defeat top-seeded Malaysian Sharon Wee to earn a place in the quarter-finals of the Women's Ottawa International Squash Championship in Canada.

The 25-year-old from Wellington needed 68 minutes to outlast Wee in a 7-9 9-0 0-9 10-8 9-0 scoreline - and now faces England's Laura Lengthorn, the eighth seed, who beat compatriot Rebecca Botwright, a qualifier, 9-6 9-3 9-4.

There was also a New Zealand casualty when third seed Lara Petera was beaten 9-8 9-7 9-3 by Samantha Teran.  The unseeded Mexican goes on to face Pakistan's seventh seed Carla Khan, who beat Danish qualifier Line Hansen 9-0 9-4 9-4.
