Ryding Rides High With Winnipeg Windfall
Final:
[1] Graham Ryding (CAN) bt [2] Laurens Jan Anjema (NED) 6-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-4 (55m)
More than 31 years after his birth in Winnipeg, national number one Graham Ryding celebrated his return to the west Canadian city by winning ADL Optical/Rodenstock Manitoba Open Squash Championship at the Winnipeg SRC.
Top seed Ryding, now based in Toronto, faced Dutchman Laurens Jan Anjema, the second seed, in the climax of the $15,000 PSA Tour event.
Neither finalist had won a PSA Tour title in almost two years - and only two ranking positions separated the pair.
But after recovering from a game down, it was the Canadian world No22 who edged out Anjema, the world No24 from The Hague, to delight the local crowd by claiming his 6-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-4 victory in 55 minutes.
The success marked the eighth PSA Tour title of Ryding's career - and the fifth earned on home soil!
