Aziz Triumphs In Polish Open In Krakow
Final:
[1] Omar Abdel Aziz (EGY) bt [Q] Patrick Gaessler (GER) 11-10 (4-2), 11-3, 11-8 (58m)
The first PSA Tour event ever to be staged in Poland ended in triumph for Omar Abdel Aziz when the top-seeded Egyptian beat German qualifier Patrick Gaessler in the final of the McWIL Dunlop Polish Open Squash Championship at the SquashClub Stare Kino in Krakow to claim his third Tour title of the year.
The 23-year-old from Cairo is enjoying a spectacular year on the PSA Tour, reaching five finals and leaping from 157 in the world rankings at the beginning of the year to 57 this month.
After stumbling in the first round – where he had to fight back from 0/2 down to beat French qualifier Romain Tenant – Aziz maintained a clean sheet through to the final where he defeated Gaessler 11-10 (4-2), 11-3, 11-8.
"I thank God for finding my game after the first match - this first match was like a wake up call for me," said Aziz after his Krakow conquest. "I think I played well in the semis and in the final. I’m so happy by this title. This year I have given everything to squash and it’s time to pay off.”
Gaessler, a 22-year-old from Stuttgart, also enjoyed a successful event – brushing aside the eighth, third and second seeds before falling to the Egyptian champion.
