Golan Lands Saskatoon Title
Irishman Liam Kenny had to settle for runners-up position in the Saskatoon Boast Squash Open for the second successive year when he was beaten in straight games in the final at the Saskatoon YMCA in Canada by Spain's Borja Golan.
The Spaniard was in sensational form – his ability to retrieve everything, coupled with his delicate backhand drop shots and workmanship boasts, kept his opponent off balance throughout the match.
Third seed Kenny put up a spirited battle in the second game, drawing even at ten-all - but three lets later and a final forehand boast into the tin from the Irishman gave Golan an insurmountable two-game lead.
Kenny fought tenaciously in the third game and both players were even to seven-all - but fourth seed Golan seemed to find another gear and pulled away to take the game and the match 11-6 11-10 11-7 in 53 minutes.
Golan, taking time off from his studies for a journalism degree at Santiago University, told the crowd later that he had had a good summer of training twice a day and he felt physically stronger this autumn.
The Saskatoon victory – Golan's second successive PSA Tour title in two months - extended the 22-year-old from Santiago's remarkable PSA record to nine titles from nine final appearances.
