Galvez Galvanised By Bankers Hall Upset

Unseeded Mexican Eric Galvez created the biggest upset on the opening day of action in the Talisman Energy Bankers Hall Club Squash Open when he despatched third seed Gavin Jones in the first round of the PSA Tour event in Calgary, Canada.

Galvez, 21, from Puebla, beat the Welshman 11-9 7-11 11-8 11-7 in 69 minutes to earn a surprise quarter-final clash with Frenchman Laurent Elriani.

On the same day that his new wife Linda Elriani successfully began the defence of her title in the Greenwich Open, south of the border in Connecticut, USA, qualifier Laurent removed England's sixth seed Alex Stait 11-6 7-11 11-10 9-11 11-6 in an 85-minute marathon.
