Alarcon Provides Home Win In Verao Open

Rafael F Alarcon, the second seed, provided an unexpected home win in the Verao Squash Open in Brazil when he beat Egypt's Amr Mansi in the final of the new $10,000 PSA Tour event in Santos.

Alarcon, the 28-year-old from Sao Paulo who won his sixth Brazilian national title in November, reached the final after beating Brazilian-based Canadian Sabir Butt in the semi-finals.

Third seed Mansi burst into his fourth PSA final after upsetting Dylan Bennett, the top seed from the Netherlands, in the other semi-final in straight games.

After surviving a tense tie-break in the first game of the final, Alarcon went on to beat Mansi 11-10 (4-2), 11-8, 11-4 to secure the third PSA title of his career.
