There will be home interest in all four quarter-finals of the inaugural Bicentenario Pachuca Open after unseeded Erik Tepos Valtierra ousted seventh seed Dick Lau in the opening round of the $16,175 PSA World Tour squash event at Silver Squash in Pachuca in the Mexican state of Hidalgo.
Tepos, a 23-year-old from Mexico City, despatched his Hong Kong opponent 11-7, 11-7, 11-3 and will now face second-seeded American Julian Illingworth for a place in the semi-finals.
Illingworth, the world No36 from New York, took 52 minutes to overcome Mexican Jonathan Uriel Ramos Islas 11-9, 11-5, 11-8.
Fresh from his title triumph in the Inove Open earlier this month on home soil, Brazilian Rafael F Alarcon recovered from a game down to beat Mexican qualifier Alfredo Avila 5-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-6 in 45 minutes.
The third seed from Sao Paulo now faces sixth-seeded Mexican Cesar Salazar, an 11-5, 11-3, 11-7 winner over Argentina's Gonzalo Miranda.
