Women's Indian Squash Challenger No2

Final:
[3] Orla Noom (NED) bt [2] Joshna Chinappa (IND) 11-8, 11-4, 12-10 (35m)

Malaysian teenager Ivan Yuen and Dutch international Orla Noom produced straight games upsets over higher-ranked opponents in the finals of the latest Indian Challenger series events in Chennai to claim the Tour titles at the Indian Squash Academy.

It was a lacklustre performance by second seed Joshna Chinappa, the Indian number one, in the climax of the Indian Challenger No2, the $8,000 WISPA World Tour event that led to Orla Noom's 11-8, 11-4, 12-10 victory in 35 minutes.

Expressing her happiness over winning her fifth WISPA title, 23-year-old Noom said:  "Joshna is player who always liked to be dragged into rallies for raising her game.  She is also known for her patience, but today my strategy to keep her in the back court as much as possible worked wonders.

"The court here is superb and I would like to come again for WISPA events," added the world No41 from Hoofddorp.

Chinappa admitted that nerves had played a part in her downfall:  "I was charged up to win the title before taking to the court, but I do not know why I was nervous today.  I could not play my shots for various reasons and actually, I could not get my rhythm well in time.

"I now need to concentrate on my next events," added the world No33 from Chennai.  "After a week's rest, I am planning to move over to New York for competitions."

The final of the men's Indian Challenger No4, a $10,000 PSA World Tour event, produced the third giant-killing victory in a row for Ivan Yuen – and handed the 19-year-old from Selangor his maiden PSA Tour title.

Yuen, who had claimed his Asian Junior title at the same venue, faced second-seeded Hungarian Mark Krajcsak, ranked 41 in the world.  The sixth-seeded Malaysian ran away with the first two games without much ado.

In the third, Krajcsak led 7-2 – but Yuen fought back to claim his momentous 11-9, 11-9, 11-9 victory after 45 minutes.
