Evans Sets Up Welsh Semi In Tenerife

Sixth seed David Evans upset third-seeded South African Rodney Durbach to set up an all-Welsh semi-final in the Prince Canary Islands Open Squash Championship in Tenerife.

Evans, the former British Open champion from Pontypool now ranked 33 in the world, defeated Durbach, ranked four places higher, 15-14 15-5 15-10 - and now faces top-seeded compatriot Alex Gough in a repeat of January's Welsh National Championships' final which was won by Evans.

Gough ended Hisham Moh'd Ashour's run with a 15-9 15-7 15-9 victory over the unseeded Egyptian.

There will also be British interest in the other semi-final where England's second seed Adrian Grant takes on Australia's Dan Jenson.  Grant beat Spain's seventh seed Borja Golan 15-9 15-11 15-6, while fourth seed Jenson fought back from 2/1 down to overcome England's Del Harris, the eighth seed, 15-5 12-15 9-15 15-1 15-6.
