Nicol Stays At One, But Power Moves Up In New World Rankings

In the new November Dunlop PSA Men's World Rankings, announced today (3 November) by the Professional Squash Association (PSA), England's Peter Nicol holds onto the No1 position - but rival Jonathon Power, the Canadian whom he meets in today's final of the West Edmonton Mall Canadian Open in Edmonton, moves back to fourth place.

London-based Nicol, ahead of Scotland's John White at two and Australia's David Palmer at three, strengthened his pole position in the rankings by reaching last month's British Open final in Nottingham, where he lost to Palmer.

Power, who reached the semi-finals where he lost a five-game thriller to Nicol, sufficiently improved his ranking points tally over the absent Thierry Lincou to overtake the Frenchman in the only change in the top ten standings.

Egypt's Amr Shabana celebrates a career-high No11 ranking in the new list, moving ahead of France's Gregory Gaultier who slips to 12.  Shabana, 24, from Cairo, won the Spanish Open in June, but fell at the first hurdle in Nottingham where he lost to champion Palmer in the first round.

Two PSA Tour titles in the USA this year - ending a three-year drought - helped Australia's Paul Price make his return to the top twenty at 18.  The 27-year-old from Melbourne claimed the Windy City Open in March and the Santa Barbara Open trophy in September and now shares 18th place with England's Mark Chaloner.
