England's second seed Stacey Ross crashed out of the Devon & Exeter Squash Open after losing to Egyptian qualifier Mohamed El Shorbagy in the first round of the inaugural PSA Tour event at Devon & Exeter Squash Club in Exeter, in the English county of Devon.
The 16-year-old from Alexandria twice came from behind to overcome Ross 8-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-10 (2-0), 11-5 in 62 minutes
"I'm delighted to have beaten this great player - and I also get to miss my French exam tomorrow," said El Shorbagy, who is based at Millfield School in England, where he is coached by legendary six-times British Open champion Jonah Barrington.
In the quarter-finals, the teenager will face seventh seed Mathieu Castagnet, one of three Frenchmen to make it through to the last eight. Castagnet beat English qualifier Shaun le Roux 11-6, 11-10 (3-1), 11-6.
France's unseeded Yann Perrin also claimed an unexpected place in the quarter-finals. The 21-year-old from Marseille removed sixth-seeded Welshman Rob Sutherland 11-4, 11-8, 11-5 and will now take on England's No3 seed Chris Ryder.
