Squash is making its maiden appearance in the 8th All Africa Games, with a men's field headed by world No8 Karim Darwish and the women's by fellow Egyptian Omneya Abdel Kawy, the world junior champion who is ranked 14 in the world. Darwish had to fight back from a game down to overcome South Africa's third seed Rodney Durbach 4-9 9-3 9-5 9-2. Meanwhile, the favourite's compatriot Mohamed Abbas, the No2 seed, despatched unseeded South African Adrian Hansen 9-2 9-3 9-1 in the other semi-final. Four Egyptians contested the women's semi-finals - with Abdel Kawy brushing aside 3/4 seed Amnah El Trabolsy 9-0 9-3 9-5, but No2 seed Engy Kheirallah having a harder job overcoming the other 3/4 seed Eman El Amir 9-5 6-9 9-6 9-10 9-3.
