Jenson & Brown Take South Australian Open Titles

Australians Dan Jenson and Kasey Brown continued their excellent run of form on home soil by taking the Mortgage Choice South Australian Squash Open titles today (Saturday) in Somerton, Australia.

Favourite Jenson, who turned 31 earlier this week, beat seventh seed and fellow South Australian Mike Corren 11-3, 11-4, 11-3 in the men's final to celebrate his second PSA Tour title a row.  Earlier in the month he picked up the Naracoorte Open crown.  The SA Open now marks his 12th PSA Tour title.

Jenson was worried he would be fatigued for the final following Friday’s five game semi-final win over New Zealand’s Kashif Shuja, but he said that problem never eventuated.

“Yesterday I did struggle once it went past the third game, but not today,” he said.  “I physically felt great and I was moving really well.”

Twenty-year-old Kasey Brown, the No3 seed, made it three WISPA World Tour wins in a row when she beat fourth seed Dianne Desira 6-9, 9-2, 9-7, 9-5 in the women's final.

Originally from Taree in New South Wales, Brown added the SA title to tournament wins at the Naracoorte Open this month and the WA Open in Perth in May.

“She played really well – she changed her game plan,” said Brown of her fellow countrywoman.  “I was able to adapt to it and although I lost a long first game, I toughed it out and got through.”

The win will boost Brown's confidence on the eve of the Australian Open in Adelaide, where she will meet fellow Australian Institute of Sport athlete Rachel Smith in the first round of the WISPA event.

“I’ve been on a bit of a roll – I’ve just got to make sure I keep it up,” added Brown.
