England's Lauren Siddall battled hard against fellow 9/16 seed Nehal Yehia to prevent this takeover. The 18-year-old from Yorkshire led 1/0 and 2/1 in games, and then 7-1 in the decider, but was unable to stop local heroine Yehia from winning 7-9 9-4 3-9 9-5 10-8 in 60 minutes to take the only place in the last four not dictated by the seedings. Yehia, who defeated Australia's No2 seed Kasey Brown in the previous round, will face 3/4 seed Amnah El Trabolsy - who survived the closest quarter-final clash against compatriot Hend Osama, ultimately clinching a 4-9 10-8 10-8 7-9 9-7 victory in 65 minutes over the only unseeded player in the last eight. Hot favourite Omneya Abdel Kawy, the world No12 who celebrated her 18th birthday in her hometown Cairo on the eve of the tournament, became the only player to reach the semi-finals without dropping a game in the tournament when she cruised to a 9-3 9-2 9-4 win over India's 5/8 seed Joshna Chinappa in 25 minutes. Kawy's next opponent will be 5/8 seed Sara Badr, the 6-9 9-0 9-4 9-5 victor in 50 minutes over fellow Egyptian Raneem El Weleily. Official website: www.worldjuniorwomenssquash.com/ |
