Spaniards Lead Upsets In Barcelona

Spanish qualifiers Constantino Casas and Oriol Salvia were the leading lights in a night of major upsets in the first round of the Esportiu Rocafort Squash Open in Barcelona, Spain.

Part-time player Casas defeated Italy's top seed Luca Mastrostefano 11-5 10-11 11-7 11-8 to set up a meeting with fifth seed Mathieu Castagnet, the 19-year-old Frenchman who had to fight back from 2/1 down to beat England's unseeded Philip Nightingale 11-6 5-11 9-11 11-8 11-1.

Oriol Salvia, a 30-year-old from Barcelona, overcame France's sixth seed Yann Perrin 11-4 11-5 6-11 11-2 and will now take on English qualifier Nick Wall for a place in the semi-finals.  Wall, 33, from Sheffield, dismissed Hungary's third seed Andras Torok 11-10 7-11 2-11 11-10 11-4.
