Ricketts Revenge Earns Dayton Title
Second-seeded Australian Anthony Ricketts fought back from 2-1 down to pull
off a dramatic upset against France's top seed Thierry Lincou to win the
$30,000 EBS Dayton Squash Open title in Ohio, USA.
Ricketts, the 23-year-old world No7 from Brisbane, set off at a blistering
pace to take the first game. Unforced errors by Ricketts in the second
allowed the world number six-ranked Frenchman to level in the second, then
move ahead after the third.
The Australian began to take a more measured approach to the match as he
restored his advantage in the fourth - and after two hours of a blistering
climax to the PSA Tour event in Dayton, Ricketts clinched his 15-12 12-15
11-15 15-7 15-11 victory.
"Having just agreed new racket, footwear, clothing and string deals on the
eve of this tournament, it was a real thrill to come away with the title
against the odds," said the Dayton champion on his new website
www.AnthonyRicketts.com. "It was also fantastic to gain revenge for my loss
to Thierry in the last final we played, in the Pittsburgh Open just a year
ago - it's been a great start to the new year," added Ricketts.
Ricketts now boasts five PSA Tour titles from seven final appearances.
