Rodriguez Celebrates First Colombian PSA Tour Success

Miguel Angel Rodriguez became the first Colombian to win a PSA Tour squash title when he upset second-seeded Spaniard Borja Golan in the final of the Tortugas Open in Buenos Aires.

The Colombian’s triumph also marked the end of a remarkable record by 22-year-old Golan, who had won all ten of his previous appearances in PSA finals.

Rodriguez, the 19-year-old sixth seed, made his breakthrough in the quarter-finals of the first PSA Tour event in Argentina for more than four years when he beat Brazil’s third seed Rafael F Alarcon in four games.

In the semi-finals, he upset Mexico’s top seed Eric Galvez in straight games.

But beating Borja was perhaps his biggest success:  Rodriguez had to fight back from a game down to win 5-11 11-5 11-8 11-4 in 43 minutes to claim the $12,000 PSA title and make his mark on squash history in Colombia.
