Grinham Celebrates Hedonism Success In Jamaica

After a tight opening game, Australia's world number one Rachael Grinham stormed through the final of the Women's Hedonism II Squash Open to beat Egypt's Omneya Abdel Kawy and pick up her fourth WISPA World Tour title of the year in Negril, Jamaica.

Grinham, the 28-year-old from Queensland who is based in Cairo, led 5-2 in the opening game.  But Kawy, the 20-year-old world No9 from Cairo, pulled back to 8-5 in a single hand before closing out the game.  The Australian was quick to gain the upper hand in the second game and maintained this dominance throughout the next two to wrap up her 7-9 9-1 9-2 9-4 victory in 38 minutes.

"The way Omneya started, I'm just glad to have won," said Grinham to the official website www.squashsite.co.uk/jamaica.  "She played very well in the first, I wasn't moving well and her aggressive shots were all coming off.

"It's great to win the first WISPA event here - it's been a fabulous week and I hope to come back to defend the title," added the Australian after securing the 21st WISPA title of her career.

Kawy responded:  "We train together quite a lot, and the games we play are quite similar, so I was conscious of trying to do something different.  I started well, but I got tired as the match went on - I'm fasting for Ramadan at the moment.  I made a few errors in the middle of the match, but Rachael was everywhere, attacking everything in the end and making very few errors.  She deserved to win."
