Selby Sails Into Semis
England's unseeded Daryl Selby burst through to the last four of the Par-Fyum Goodlife Squash Open in Ottawa, Canada, to claim his fourth appearance in the semi-finals of a PSA Tour event this year against the odds.
After upsetting fourth-seeded Canadian Shawn Delierre in the opening round, the 22-year-old from Essex despatched Australian qualifier Wade Johnstone 11-7 11-4 7-11 11-10 in a 41-minute quarter-final.
Ranked outside the world's top 200 a year ago, Selby now boasts a career-high 83 ranking. Winner of the last event in which he competed in Canada, the La Sportheque Pro-Am in Quebec, Selby faces compatriot Jonathan Kemp for a place in the Ottawa final. Second seed Kemp beat France's No8 seed Laurent Elriani 10-11 11-4 11-5 11-3.
Local interest will be focussed on the other semi-final in which top seed Shahier Razik takes on Welshman Gavin Jones. Razik, 27, from Toronto, beat Australia's fifth seed Simon Carruthers 11-6 11-5 11-5 while Jones, the third seed, defeated New Zealander Callum O'Brien 11-5 11-2 11-7.
