Genever Wins Czech Open
Top seed Peter Genever triumphed in an all-English final of the Hi-Tec &
Dunlop Czech Squash Open to claim the fourth PSA Tour title of his career
without dropping a game throughout the event in Prague.
After a comfortable straight games win over surprise Swedish semi-finalist
Christian Drakenberg, the 29-year-old from Sussex took the opening two games
15-8 15-7 against compatriot Scott Handley when the seventh seed from
Oxfordshire conceded the match due to an injury.
The victory marked Genever's first title success since November 2001 - and
Handley's first ever loss in a PSA Tour final since winning four titles in
his career since 1995.
Handley had been fully extended in his earlier semi-final against fellow
Englishman Stacey Ross. Unseeded Ross, who despatched third-seeded Irishman
Derek Ryan earlier in the event, twice led in the five-game marathon - but
Handley maintained his focus to win 6-15 15-11 6-15 15-9 15-5.
