Carla Captures Wah Cantt Crown

Pakistan No1 Carla Khan delighted home crowds at the Jahangir Khan Squash Complex in Wah Cantt, near Islamabad, when she crushed Malaysia's Sharon Wee in the final of the Women's POF Wah Cantt Open to lift the trophy in the first women's international squash event to be held in Pakistan.

The UK-based 24-year-old raced through to the final without dropping a single game.  Against second seed Wee, favourite Khan took just 22 minutes to clinch her 9-1 9-4 9-3 victory and the third WISPA World Tour title of her career.

After dedicating the trophy to her parents, Khan told local reporters:  "I am very glad to win this inaugural tournament in my own country Pakistan.  It’s like a dream come true,” said the grand-daughter of the country's legendary squash player Azam Khan.

World Squash Federation President Jahangir Khan was chief guest at the event and complimented the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) for organising the tournament and promoting the women's game.

"Our girls lag far behind at international level and have to work very hard to prove their mettle at the world stage,” said the record ten-times British Open champion.
