Swede Drakenberg Stands In Way Of All-English Czech Open Final
Sixth-seeded Swede Christian Drakenberg ended local interest in the Hi-Tec &
Dunlop Czech Squash Open when he came back from two games down to upset Czech
No1 Jan Koukal, the third seed, 12-15 8-15 15-9 15-14 15-4 in the
quarter-finals in Prague.
Fresh from action in the European Team Championships in England, where he led
Sweden to an impressive fifth place finish, Drakenberg now meets England's
top seed Peter Genever who defeated Egyptian qualifier Amr Mansi in straight
games.
The other semi-final will be a surprise all-English affair between unseeded
Stacey Ross and seventh seed Scott Handley. Ross reached the last eight
after upsetting Ireland's fourth seed Derek Ryan in the first round, then
beat India's Ritwik Bhattacharya 15-8 15-4 15-11 to take his place in the
semi-finals.
Handley upset Dutchman Laurens Anjema, the No2 seed, 15-5 15-8 15-8.
