WISPA Celebrates Maiden Event In Pakistan
The first ever Women's International Squash Players' Association (WISPA) event in Pakistan will be held this week.
The POF Wah Cantt Open will take place at the Jahangir Khan Squash Complex in Wah Cantt, near Islamabad, from 30 August to 2 September.
Sponsored by the Pakistan Ordnance Factories, the Tour 7 event is run under the auspices of the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) and boasts a strong international field - led by the UK-based Pakistan No1 Carla Khan, the world No23, who is expected to meet Malaysia's Sharon Wee, ranked just one place below, in Friday's final.
"It is a real delight for WISPA to bring our World Tour to any new country, but coming to Pakistan, a country with a wonderfully rich history in men's squash that is now firmly embracing women's squash, is a great boost," said WISPA Executive Director Andrew Shelley.
"PSF said last year that they would put their toe in the water this year and we are sure that after this POF event they will want to jump in and splash around in the future! We are very grateful to them for this initiative," added Shelley.
