Mixed Success For Malaysian Arnolds In Kuala Lumpur

There was mixed success for Malaysian siblings Timothy and Delia Arnold in today's (Thursday) first round of the Country View Kuala Lumpur Open Squash Championships at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil, Malaysia.

Timothy Arnold, the seventh seed in the men's event, survived a close first three games against Japan's Takehide Hota before romping to an 11-8 11-8 10-11 11-0 victory in 35 minutes.  The 20-year-old from KL - who now exclusively leads local interest in the men's event - next meets Pakistan's top seed Shamsul Islam Khan, who beat Malaysian qualifier Nafzahizam Adnan 5-11 11-9 11-7 6-11 11-4 in 36 minutes.

Qualifier Delia Arnold faced second seed Annelize Naude in the first round of the women's event.  The experienced 28-year-old from Amsterdam took 30 minutes to overpower the local favourite 9-6 10-8 9-2 to take her place in the quarter-finals.

Local heroine Nicol David needed just 20 minutes to book her anticipated place in the last eight.  Runner-up last year and top seed this, David brushed aside compatriot Tricia Chuah 9-3 9-7 9-3.

The world number four's next opponent is a surprise - after Ireland's unseeded Aisling Blake defeated eight-seeded Australian Amelia Pittock 10-8 9-5 7-9 9-2 in 42 minutes.
