Prince Star Wins Prince's Trophy In Monte Carlo

After finishing as runner-up in five successive ranking events in 2004, Prince squash star Cassie Jackman clinched the Women's Monte Carlo Classic title for the third time - and received the event's impressive trophy from His Highness Prince Albert of Monaco.

It was a welcome first title victory this year for the England No1 who beat compatriot Jenny Tranfield in straight games in the final after only dropping one game throughout the event.

Despite being world No1 for six months of this year, Jackman had only lifted the WISPA World Grand Prix Finals trophy, a non-ranking title, before recording her Monte Carlo Classic hat-trick.

The former world champion set about her task with characteristic venom, jumping into the ball and driving fiercely.  Jackman, now ranked two in the world and seeded to win, maintained her superiority over her third-seeded opponent throughout the match - and ultimately triumphed 9-6 9-0 9-5 in 42 minutes.

Prince Albert, an IOC delegate, is also a keen squash player - and was particularly interested in hearing from Jackman that the WISPA World Tour moves on to Shanghai, for the first time, next month.  When it was explained that an all-glass court will be erected on the waterfront, and international TV will feature the final stages, he was clearly enthused.

Jackman was delighted with her week in Monte Carlo:  "I knew that the final would not be easy, and to win 3/0 is a bonus.  Monaco is a really nice place to come to - there are so many familiar faces here, they are so welcoming," added the 31-year-old who now boasts 27 WISPA World Tour titles.
