Seeds Tested In Las Vegas

The top four seeds survived the first round of the 'Bright Lights' Women's Las Vegas Squash Open - but all were tested by lower-ranked opposition on the opening day of this popular event on the WISPA World Tour in Nevada, USA, now in its eighth year.

England's unseeded Alison Waters led 2/1 against second seed Omneya Abdel Kawy, but the 18-year-old Egyptian, ranked ten in the world, fought back to win 9-3 2-9 6-9 9-6 9-7 to take her anticipated place in the quarter-finals.

Welsh qualifier Tegwen Malik forged a 2/0 lead over fellow Briton Vicky Botwright, but the third seed from England maintained her focus to come through 5-9 7-9 9-3 9-7 10-8.

England's Rebecca Macree is seeded to win the title for the first time.  The world No9 from London needed four games to overcome New Zealand qualifier Tamsyn Leevey 9-0 9-6 5-9 9-5, and now faces compatriot Stephanie Brind after the sixth seed beat Egypt's Engy Kheirallah 9-1 9-7 9-4.
