Grinham Survives Botwright Texas Test
Second seed Rachael Grinham will take her anticipated place in the
semi-finals of the Women's Texas Squash Open, but the British Open champion
from Australia was fully tested by England's unseeded Vicky Botwright in the
quarter-finals of the WISPA Gold event in Houston, USA.
Grinham, the Cairo-based 27-year-old world No2 from Toowoomba in Queensland,
twice led after easy 9-1 victories in the first and third games. But
Botwright, the 26-year-old from Manchester who took out fifth seed Fiona
Geaves in the first round, levelled both times - and was ahead in the
decider before Grinham eventually scored four points in a row to claim her
9-1 6-9 9-1 4-9 9-5 win in 75 minutes.
The Australian No1 will now face third seed Vanessa Atkinson, after the
Dutch No1 brushed aside Malaysia's former world junior champion Nicol David
9-6 9-2 9-5 in 35 minutes..
The other semi-final will feature England's top seed Cassie Jackman and
Rachael's younger sister Natalie Grinham. Jackman, the world No1 from
Norfolk who was runner-up two years ago in Houston, overcame a first game
deficit to beat compatriot Rebecca Macree 4-9 9-3 9-2 9-5 in 53 minutes.
In the other quarter-final, Scottish qualifier Pamela Nimmo led 5-1 in the
first game against fourth seed Natalie. But the world No5 struck back and
stormed to a 9-5 9-2 9-1 victory in just 26 minutes.
