Malaysia celebrated an unexpected home double today (Friday) when Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan and Delia Arnold claimed the trophies in the NSC Series No7 Squash Championships at the Bukit Jalil National Squash Centre in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.
Adnan, the third seed, made his breakthrough in the semi-finals of the men's PSA World Tour Super Satellite event when he upset Pakistan's No2 seed Yasir Butt 5-11, 11-6, 4-11, 11-3, 11-8.
In the final, the KL-based 23-year-old faced compatriot Ivan Yuen, the eighth seed who ousted Czech favourite Jan Koukal in the quarter-finals. Yuen, the 18-year-old Asian Junior champion, continued his good form to down higher-seeded Pakistani Arshad Iqbal Burki in the semis.
It took the more experienced Adnan almost an hour - but the third seed ultimately secured the fifth successive Tour win over his younger fellow countryman to claim the fifth PSA title of his career in an 11-7, 11-7, 4-11, 11-7 scoreline.
By contrast, the climax of the women's $8,000 WISPA World Tour went according to seedings - with favourite Delia Arnold beating second-seeded fellow Malaysian Sharon Wee 11-5, 11-3, 11-7.
The title triumph marks 23-year-old Arnold's fifth WISPA Tour success.
