Grigg Grabs Sola Scalp

Canada's unseeded Kyla Grigg created the only upset on the opening day of the BMO Nesbitt Burns Ontario Open Squash Championships when she fought back from 0/2 down, and saved a match-ball in the third game, before beating fifth-seeded Spaniard Olga Puigdemont Sola in five games in Ottawa, Canada.

Grigg's dramatic 0-9 6-9 10-9 9-4 9-7 victory, in which she calmly saved the match-ball with a return of serve straight into the nick, took 60 minutes - the longest match of the day in both the men's and women's first rounds.  The 19-year-old from Calgary now faces a quarter-final clash with compatriot Melanie Jans, the No2 seed who removed fellow Canadian Lauren Polonich 9-1 9-7 9-6.

Shawn De Lierre and Ian Power led home hopes into the quarter-finals of the men's event.  De Lierre, the sixth seed from Toronto, beat compatriot David Phillips 15-8 15-12 15-10 in 39 minutes while seventh seed Power, from Montreal, ended Bermudan interest with a 15-10 15-13 15-5 win over Nicholas Kyme in 44 minutes.
