American Gilly Lane showed great skill and stamina at the Hemubo Squash Trophy to win the $3,000 PSA World Tour Satellite squash event in the Dutch city of Almere.

The 23-year old top seed from Philadelphia, ranked 78 in the world, first squeezed past England’s third seed Neil Cordell in the semi finals, before securing an impressive straight games victory over Englishman Joe Lee in the event’s climax.

After beating Cordell 11-9 in the fifth earlier in the day, Dutch-based Lane seemed likely to start slowly against his four-year-younger opponent - who needed only three games to knock out Germany's Andre Haschker in the other semi final.

However, Lane dominated play from the outset against the talented second seed and never looked in danger throughout the opening two games.

"The third was a different story though," reported tournament organiser Tommy Berden.  "Lee raced to a 7-1 lead, only to find Lane clawing his way back into a 10-9 advantage.  The first match ball was saved, but not long after the American clinched the match with yet another great winner."

The 11-5, 11-7, 12-10 victory gives Lane the second PSA Tour title of his career.  It was at the end of November last year that the US number two proved victorious at the KEAN Delft Open 2008, also held in his ‘adopted’ country the Netherlands.
