England On Course For European Junior Championship Double
Men's semi-finals:
[5/8] Anthony Graham (ENG) bt [9/16] Raphael Kandra (GER) 11-8, 11-9, 10-12, 11-6
[5/8] Lucas Serme (FRA) bt [3/4] Alex Ingham (ENG) 11-9, 5-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-7
Women's semi-finals:
[1] Sarah-Jane Perry (ENG) bt [9/16] Julianne Courtice (ENG) 11-3, 9-11, 11-3, 11-7
[5/8] Millie Tomlinson (ENG) bt [2] Kimberley Hay (ENG) 11-6, 11-3, 11-6
After becoming the first country in the history of the event to provide all four women's semi-finalists, England could now take both titles in the European Junior U19 Squash Championships after 5/8 seed Anthony Graham claimed a place in the men's final of the flagship European Squash Federation Junior Circuit event in Germering, Germany.
Graham, an 18-year-old from Gloucestershire competing in the event for the first time, denied the hosts representation in the final by beating Germany's Raphael Kandra, a 9/16 seed, 11-8, 11-9, 10-12, 11-6.
But hopes of an all-English men's final were dashed when France's Lucas Serme, a 5/8 seed, fought back from 2/1 down to upset England's 3/4 seed Alex Ingham 11-9, 5-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-7.
An all-English women's final was predicted by the seedings - but 16-year-old Millie Tomlinson continued her exceptional run in the event to deny second-seeded compatriot Kimberley Hay the chance to claim her anticipated place in the climax.
The Duffield youngster, who defeated France's 3/4 seed Emilie Lamilango in the quarter-finals, despatched 17-year-old Hay 11-6, 11-3, 11-6.
Tomlinson will meet favourite Sarah-Jane Perry after the 18-year-old from Kenilworth ended the brave run of fellow countrywoman Julianne Courtice - the 9/16 seed who shocked two higher-seeded opponents to make the semis - in four games, winning 11-3, 9-11, 11-3, 11-7.
