After a first round victory over Hong Kong's fourth seed Rebecca Chiu, the Asian Games champion who was a semi-finalist last year, Malik today (Friday) trounced local star Sharon Wee, the sixth seed and the other beaten semi-finalist in 2003, 9-0 9-3 9-2 in the quarter-finals. The 29-year-old from Swansea will now face home favourite Nicol David, the No2 seed from Penang who despatched Ireland's Madeline Perry 9-4 3-9 9-3 9-0. In the men's event, top seed Tommy Berden is just one win away from reaching the final for the second year in a row. The 24-year-old from the Netherlands beat India's No7 seed Ritwik Bhattacharya 15-10 15-4 15-11 and now goes on to meet fellow countryman Laurens Jan Anjema, the third seed who beat Australia's Cameron White in straight games
