Hopes of a British double were dashed in the Welsh Open in Cardiff when Dane Rasmus Nielsen and Italian Manuela Manetta claimed the men’s and women’s Tour squash titles, respectively, at the Welsh Institute of Sport.

Rasmus Nielsen, the third seed from Odense, beat defending champion David Evans 11-9, 11-1, 11-9 in the men’s final to win the second PSA Tour title of his career.

But Evans, a former British Open champion, had to work his way through the qualifiers before progressing to his tenth Tour final after despatching two seeded opponents.

England’s unseeded Victoria Lust made a major breakthrough in the women’s event after dismissing France’s second seed Camille Serme in the opening round.

The 19-year-old from Bedfordshire overcame two further seeds before meeting favourite Manuela Manetta in the final.

But the Italian had to fight back from 2/1 down to beat Lust 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-9 to claim the third WISPA World Tour title of her career.
