Frenchman Renan Lavigne won the first PSA Tour squash title of the New Year when he beat compatriot Johann Bouquet in the final of the Open du Gard at the AS Sun Squash des Arenes in Nimes, France.

After surviving a four-game battle against England’s Adrian Waller in the semi-finals, top seed Lavigne faced Bouquet, the second seed who was also stretched by an Englishman – fourth seed Neil Cordell - in the other semi-final.

But 34-year-old Lavigne, a former world No17 in his 15th Tour final, was too strong for Bouquet, beating the 24-year-old from Toulouse - celebrating his maiden final appearance – 11-4, 11-6, 11-8.
