Australian Steve Finitsis notched up his fifth PSA Tour title win this year when he beat top-seeded American Gilly Lane in the final of the Q-Sourcing Squash Trophy at Victoria Squash in the Netherlands city of Rotterdam.
Looking for his first Tour title outside his home country, Finitsis reached the PSA Satellite event final after beating local player Piedro Schweertman, the third seed, 11-7, 11-8, 11-7 in the semi-finals.
Event favourite Gilly Lane, 23, from Philadelphia celebrated his maiden appearance in a Tour final after overcoming fifth-seeded Finn Matias Tuomi in the other semi.
But Queenslander Finitsis flourished in the final, beating Lane 11-5, 10-12, 11-4, 11-8.
Both Lane and Finitsis will now prepare for the KEAN Delft Open 2008, which takes place later this month in the Dutch city of Delft. Finitsis is top seed for this new PSA event, Lane is seeded second.
The Q-sourcing Squash Trophy 2008 is part of the Forexx Pro Tour Squash 2008-2009, which consists of 10 professional tournaments, all counting towards World Rankings. The Forexx Pro Tour gives the Dutch men the chance to earn wildcards for next year’s Dutch Open.
