Pontypool-based Evans, the British Open champion in 2000, triumphed 15-10 9-15 15-10 15-8 and now faces Czech Jan Koukal, the seventh seed, for a place in the semi-finals. Top seed Paul Price, who also pulled out of the World Open with a knee injury, reserved his place in the quarter-finals with a 15-12 15-12 15-10 win over Brazilian Rafael Alarcon. The Australian now meets England's 8th seed Joey Barrington.
