It was an all-South African final that brought the men's PSA Satellite event to a conclusion - third seed Gary Wheadon claiming his place in the final after the surprise first round exit of second-seeded Dutchman Niels Hoevenaars.
But Clinton Leeuw turned out to be the strongest player in the men's draw. Despite dropping a game in the final against, the 25-year old never looked like losing to compatriot Wheadon. After conceding the second game, Leeuw upped the pace and never relinquished the lead against his one year older opponent, beating Wheadon 11-7, 5-11, 11-7, 11-3 in 58 minutes to claim his first PSA Tour title.
Kronemeyer proved to be a class apart in the women’s WISPA World Tour event, brushing aside three higher-ranked opponents with unexpected ease. After making her breakthrough in the opening round, where she despatched compatriot and favourite Orla Noom, the world number 75 was unstoppable in the final when she romped home with an impressive 9-1, 9-0, 9-2 victory over second seed Margriet Huisman to claim her maiden WISPA Tour title.
