Laurens Jan Anjema gekwalificeerd voor US Open
Boswell Sets Up Power Clash In US Open
Canberra's Stewart Boswell is one of two Australians who have fought through the qualifiers to earn a place in the first round of the US Open Squash Championships at its new venue of the Murr Center at Harvard University in Boston.
But the former world No4, who has climbed from 261 to 29 in the world rankings since beginning his fight back from a mystery back ailment in April, is drawn to face top seed Jonathon Power.
In the qualifying finals, Boswell brushed aside England's Mark Chaloner 11-3 11-7 11-3 to set up his meeting with Power, the world No2 from Canada who last week won the Motor City Open in Detroit.
Boswell is joined in the first round by compatriot Cameron Pilley. The 23-year-old Queenslander beat Canada's Shahier Razik 11-8 11-1 10-11 11-3 to earn the qualifier slot against England's sixth seed Nick Matthew.
In the women's qualifying finals, England's Suzie Pierrepont lost out to Canada's Runa Reta in a 10-8 9-5 9-4 scoreline. But the 20-year-old from Brighton, who won her first WISPA World Tour title last week at the Rollpak Goshen Open in Indiana, was then given the 'lucky loser' slot on the late withdrawal of Pakistan's eighth seed Carla Khan – and now plays Egypt's Engy Kheirallah in the first round.
