Top Seeds Through To World Championship Quarters
The top four seeds sailed comfortably through to Sunday's quarter-finals of the Women's World Junior Squash Championship - but South Africa's fourth seed Tenille Swartz had to fight back from a game down to beat France's Camille Serme 7-9 9-3 9-3 9-3 in today's (Saturday) fourth round in Herentals, Belgium.
Swartz, the 18-year-old South African national champion, travelled directly to Belgium from Duisburg in Germany, where she was the youngest squash player competing in last week's IOC-backed multi-sport event.
The teenager now faces Nehal Yehia - the Egyptian who made the semi-finals two years ago - for a place in this year's last four.
Local star Charlie de Rycke beat Egypt's Heba Ahmed 9-0 9-5 9-2 to reserve her place in the last eight. The European junior champion from Belgium, seeded three, will meet another Egyptian, Sara Badr, for a place in the semi-finals. Badr, who joined Yehia in the all-Egyptian last four line-up in 2003, beat New Zealand's Joelle King 9-3 9-2 9-6.
The top two seeds appeared untroubled in the fourth round clashes - Indian favourite Joshna Chinappa beating unseeded Malaysian Siti Munirah Jusoh 9-6 9-4 9-1, and second seed Raneem El Weleily, from Egypt, defeating Hong Kong's Ka Kei Chiu 9-6 9-0 9-6.
