Bhattacharya Is Chennai Champion

Ritwik Bhattacharya brought an end to the giant-killing run of unseeded Siddharth Suchde when he won the all-Indian final of the ICL Chennai Open Squash Championship in powerful style at the ICL Academy in Chennai, India.

Holidaying Harvard student Suchde had become the talk of the tournament after beating the seventh and third seeds on the way to the semi-finals where he knocked out New Zealand's top seed Kashif Shuja in a five-game 61-minute marathon.

Meanwhile, second seed Bhattacharya had coolly taken his anticipated place in the climax after dropping only a single game in three rounds - to fourth seed Dylan Bennett in his 47-minute semi-final.

But 20-year-old Suchde's toil had clearly taken its toll by the final, where 25-year-old London-based Bhattacharya swept to an 11-5 11-5 11-7 victory in 41 minutes to claim his biggest PSA title to date.

The success maintains Bhattacharya's 100% record in PSA Tour finals, with five wins out of five appearances since his maiden title victory in New Zealand in August 2003.
