Zaman Cousins Eye Up Surprise Semi-Final Clash

Pakistani cousins Mansoor Zaman and Farrukh Zaman are just one round away from a surprise semi-final meeting in the PTCL Pakistan Circuit No2 Squash Championship at the Punjab Squash Complex in Lahore, Pakistan.

Farrukh fought his way into the $25,000 PSA Tour event through the qualifiers, then recovered from two games down to upset compatriot Shamsul Islam Khan, the eighth seed, 10-11 10-11 11-8 11-4 11-6 to reach the quarter-finals.

His opponent will be second seed Mohd Azlan Iskandar who beat Pakistan qualifier Aamir Atlas Khan 11-6 11-7 11-4 - but a win over the Malaysian would take Peshawar-based Farrukh into a likely semi-final against his cousin Mansoor, the fourth seed.

Mansoor Zaman needed four games to overcome compatriot Khalid Atlas Khan 11-5 11-4 3-11 11-5, and now meets Frenchman Stephane Galifi, the seventh seed,  who beat unseeded Pakistani Yasir Butt 5-11 11-9 11-5 11-9.

Top seed in Lahore is Shahid Zaman, also a cousin of Mansoor and Farrukh.  The world No17 from Quetta took four games to defeat fellow countryman Arshad Iqbal Burki 9-11 11-6 11-10 11-2 to set up a quarter-final meeting with Egypt's Mohamed Essam A Hafiz, the fifth seed.
