National Club Championships Return To Nottingham

The finals of the National Club Championships, one of the most popular events on the domestic squash calendar, return to Nottingham Squash Club this weekend (7-8 May).

The event, hosted England Squash, is important in the English governing body's commitment to the sport at grassroots level, as the numerous categories contested represent the varying levels of squash played at clubs throughout the country.  "It is also a chance for old friends and rivals to meet both socially and competitively," added Competitions and Events Manager Chris Nutley.

Men's champions Colets and Women's champions Pontefract are back to defend their titles with hopes of once again representing England in the European Club Championships in September.  In the Women's semi-finals, Yorkshire club Pontefract face Edgbaston Priory, while Strings-Tewkesbury play New Eltham.  The men's semi-finals see Pontefract pitted against Hereford Whitecross and Colets, from Thames Ditton in Surrey, taking on Redwood Lodge.

Colets are also returning with the aim of retaining their Men's Over 35 title and face Nottingham in the final.  Nottingham have again showed their strength in the age group events and are also in the Men's Over 45 final, where they face LA Fitness - Salisbury.  This season sees the introduction of a Men's Over 55 category, which has been well received, with Bexley and Chichester set to fight it out in the inaugural final.

The Women's Over 35 title has been held by New Eltham for five years, but the London club has surprisingly failed to reach the final this time around - leaving Chapel Allerton and Cannons Richmond to fight it out for the honours.

After finally winning the Junior Mixed event last year, Leamington are back to defend their title against Nottingham, while Heaton and Racquets Fitness battle it out in the Racketball final.

The Non County Mixed event has proved to be one of the highlights of the finals weekend over recent seasons, attracting much interest and support.  Reigning champions Chapel Allerton return to defend their title against Bexley.
