WORLD SQUASH NEWS Lincou Stays Top Of PSA World Rankings France's Thierry Lincou maintains his year-long reign as world number one in the new May Dunlop PSA Men's World Squash Rankings, announced today (04 May) by the Professional Squash Association. But England's Lee Beachill overtakes David Palmer to reclaim the second position he surrendered to the Australian last month. The Englishman reached the final of last month's Virtual Spectator Bermuda PSA Masters, the Yorkshireman's first PSA Tour final appearance since finishing as runner-up to Lincou in December's World Open. Canadian Jonathon Power, winner of the Bermuda Masters, crashes back into the top four at No4 - his highest world ranking since December 2003. The 30-year-old from Montreal ended a barren period for most of last year by winning the Hungarian Open in October, followed by the Apawamis Open in New York in January, before his Bermuda triumph last month. Meanwhile England's Peter Nicol, a semi-finalist in Bermuda, slips to No5 - his lowest position for almost ten years. Scotland's John White returns to the top ten, at 10, after a gap of three months, while Malaysia's Ong Beng Hee, winner of last month's Irish Open, moves up to 15 - his highest position for exactly a year. Lower in the list, Finland's Olli Tuominen makes a welcome return to the top twenty at 18. The unseeded 26-year-old from Helsinki reached the second round of the Bermuda Masters, notching up the seventh successive PSA event in which he had advanced beyond his seeding. 1 [1] Thierry Lincou FRA 2 [3] Lee Beachill ENG 3 [2] David Palmer AUS 4 [6] Jonathon Power CAN 5 [4] Peter Nicol ENG 6 [5] Amr Shabana EGY 7 [7] Anthony Ricketts AUS 8 [8] James Willstrop ENG 9 [9] Nick Matthew ENG 10 [11] John White SCO 11 [12] Karim Darwish EGY 12 [10] Gregory Gaultier FRA 13 [13] Graham Ryding CAN 14 [14] Joseph Kneipp AUS 15 [17] Ong Beng Hee MAS 16 [16] Adrian Grant ENG 17 [15] Shahid Zaman PAK 18 [21] Olli Tuominen FIN 19 [18] Mohd Azlan Iskandar MAS 20 [19] Mohammed Abbas EGY For full list - see www.psa-squash.com/ |
