Kenny Extends Favourite In Irish Open

Ireland's unseeded Liam Kenny twice led top seed Ong Beng Hee and extended the Malaysian for a full 80 minutes before bravely bowing out of the quarter-finals of the Irish Open Squash Championships at the Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club in Dublin.

Kenny, playing impressively, led 6-5 in the fifth and deciding game before world No17 Beng Hee showed his class and eventually pulled away to win 7-11 11-3 6-11 11-7 11-6.

The men's event programme finished late in the evening with another marathon, in which France's eighth seed Stephane Galifi stretched second seed Alex Gough before the experienced Welshman wrapped up his 11-7 6-11 11-8 3-11 11-5 victory in 60 minutes.

Gough will now face Dutchman Laurens Jan Anjema, who barely broke sweat in his quarter-final after opponent Stacey Ross conceded the match midway through the first game, suffering with an eye infection.

Madeline Perry carries Irish hopes into the semi-finals of the women's event.  The Dublin-born No1 seed had an easy passage into the last four, comfortably beating Sarah Kippax of England 9-3 9-0 9-6 in 33 minutes to set up a semi-final clash with her third English opponent, third seed Stephanie Brind.
