Joey, son of the British squash legend and six-times British Open champion Jonah Barrington, took 94 minutes to overcome his Mexican opponent Eric Galvez in the quarter-finals - then was extended for exactly the same length of time by Giuffre in a semi-final marathon! The 22-year-old world No50 from Edmonton, ranked 12 places below Barrington, twice pegged back the second seed's leads before prevailing 6-11 11-6 5-11 11-9 11-7 to reserve a place in his third PSA Tour event final in his home country this year. Toronto-based Graham Ryding enjoyed a more straightforward route to the final, beating fellow Canadian Viktor Berg 11-9 11-2 11-5 in 36 minutes in a repeat of his victory over the sixth seed in last year's Canadian National Championships. Despite winning three national titles in the past seven years, and a gold medal in the Pan American Games in 1999, 29-year-old Ryding has not picked up a PSA title since October 1996 - a year in which he claimed trophies in the USA, Brazil and Colombia. A runner-up in four PSA finals since his last success, Ryding will be hoping to end his drought in Montreal, his 16th career PSA final. |
